Ultega GPS Pulse Computer with Chest Strap Navrun 2K11 reviewed here on Amazon is truly an amazing piece of technology built into a wrist watch and I am really impressed by it's features and functionality.Size and Build Quality:-----------------------The Size is perfect for average build person's wrist with active lifestyle, it is about 55 grams in weight -not too heavy, and about 16 mm thick - slightly thicker than expected but not too uncomfortable to wear. It is rated to about 30 meters water resistance. The build quality is good and in my opinion will last a long time. The watch body is attractive looking with overall rubbery feel and made out of high quality materials. The LCD visibility is very good, it also has "Night mode" wherein you get a "bluish green" glow when you press the light button.Battery Life:-------------The watch has built-in rechargeable battery that can be charged by the provided USB clip cable that also acts as the data cable for transferring watch data to the computer. The battery is stated to last for nearly a year without use of GPS, If you use GPS continuously, the battery will last for about 7-8 hrs of use before it switches the GPS, back-light function off and the battery will last for 2 weeks more to give you enough opportunity to recharge the battery, The menu also has a battery gauge that you can view at anytime and gives you the approximate time left for GPS usage.GPS function:-------------In my observation, GPS locked within first few minutes of use and got the accurate time and date automatically from the GPS satellites, and it stayed locked with 2D GPS bars inside the house, each bar indicating lock to a GPS satellite, Once outside the house, it immediately gave me 3D bars which means you are locked to enough satellites to provide 3D GPS Fixed lock.I gave a test run last evening and ran with the GPS pulse watch around the block and the data was accurate to less than +/- few meters when viewed in Google Earth in 3D! - Very accurate indeed. You can specify tons of parameters, like recording speed, Altitude, heart rate, sampling rate, heading, and GPS location data - Very cool for a small device like this!Navigation:-----------The watch also has Waypoint Navigation, It is more of a novelty feature as the watch can only show an arrow with various waypoints to your desired destination, you will have to set the waypoints using Google Maps view within the watch software first and then make necessary changes and store it in the watch, I found Waypoint navigation little cumbersome to use with the included software, But, if you have Google Earth Software installed, you can import Google Earth Software (Free version) "turn by turn" directions data into the watch software and you can create the Waypoint Navigation faster. It works, but not very practical to use.HRM Pulse Function:-------------------The watch has to be paired with the heart rate monitor (HRM) chest strap which operates at 2.4 GHz, The paring is quite easy if you follow the instructions, you need to make sure that you wear the Chest strap and also make sure that the contacts are moist for it to function. At first I could not figure out why it was not working, but the key is to make sure that the contacts on the chest strap is moist for it to function. The HRM is fairly accurate in my tests; I ran an extended test for about 8hours to capture my daughter's heart rate when she slept overnight and results were readable in the included software and I am planning on doing more tests in the future to see her heart rate and sleep patterns - very cool use of the feature.Digital Compass / Timer / Alarms / Dual Time & Power save features:-------------------------------------------------------------------The watch also has Digital Compass which in my test is fairly accurate with 1 degree resolution and 16 cardinals. In my tests, it showed a digital read out of the compass data with degrees and directional data fairly accurately. It also has Timer function, 5 user customizable alarms, and "Dual Time" for the second time zone of your choice. You can turn off the LCD display to save power, It still maintains Time & Date when in power save mode.Software:---------The watch will function without the software, but in reality, Software is needed to view the activity in great detail. You will have to install the software (Windows PC only) and USB driver for the software to communicate with the watch to retrieve the data that it stores for various activities, Software also allows integration with Google Earth to provide 3D view of your workout and paths that you took with your watch around the globe!.In my tests, I found that the included software is easy to install, the software is simple to use, no bloat-ware, but, it needs Internet connection to communicate with Google maps to display maps and location data display; Software also has Firmware update capability for the watch. At the time of this review, there was no firmware update available.Overall impression: *** Good Purchase, Recommended! ***-------------------A pretty good little device, if you lead an active lifestyle and would like to record your workout data, Heart rate monitor, GPS location data plus have the capability to have navigation built right into your watch this is your solution!See the pictures that I have posted on Amazon for better visibility of the item in review, if you have questions, please feel free to comment! Thanks for reading this review!

Ultega 2K11 first ImpressionsThese are tests of the watch only for now, its raining and I could not take it for a "run" and so did not install the software yet. More to come soon. The watch will not communicate with a PC without the software. The software is not compatible with a MAC. For my comparative review of a similar product see Magellan Switch Crossover GPS Watch with Heart Rate Monitor. This watch comes with many, many functions, and fortunately the menus on the dot matrix LCD display are pretty self explanatory. I gave it a quick charge of about an hour with a supplied USB clamp that grabs the watch in a set of plastic jaws with four gold pins. The charge is good for a year of watch only, or 8 hours with heart rate monitor and GPS running. There is a battery meter as well. There a four main screens, a watch, exercise, navigation and compass. The exercise and compass have additional screens. The watch is THICK, 16 mm, but about the same as my Casio Pathfinder w/ Solar, Atomic, Compass, Barometer and thermometer. The case is black resin and the front is genuine mineral glass. For the setup you can customize personal data, units, and what is displayed on the multiple screens. I quickly set up a user screen for one of the many exercise screens, where I chose to display speed, heading and GPS position. The other screens already had heart rate, % of target rate, altitude, calories burned, lap time, etc. Unfortunately you cant quite have it all on one display, as the heading displayed was a GPS heading, and not the compass heading from the internal compass. This means that on the exercise screen you will not get a good heading unless you are moving, this is not the case when you are using the compass screen. The heart rate monitor was a bit tricky to set up, the manual implies its pre configured, but that you may want to pair it like a Bluetooth device first. This took me a little time as apparently unless you are wearing the chest strap or holding the two contact patches with your hands, it will not power up. I did have to read the manual for that. The strap is a PAIN to put on as the little latches that connect the sensor to the elastic strap are very stiff and do not slide into place easy. I wound up connecting the strap to the sensor first, then I slipped the whole thing over my head.Once configured, the initial GPS lock took about 15 minutes, much longer than advertised, but in line with what I expect for a stone cold boot. Subsequent syncing took about 30 seconds cold, and 10 seconds from a hot start. You can use the GPS to set the clock each time it is activated, which is neat, but you have to make sure that you set the correct time zone first. The navigation screen can be configured to take you to a Waypoint on a course or to a Geocache, (with proximity alerts!).On the initial "jog" around the house both the GPS and the heart rate monitor worked very well without loosing signal. Each time you press start/stop it is interpreted as a new lap, and data for averages is stored internally, so you don't absolutely need a PC. One neat data field is Pace, so its very easy to see whether you are on track for that four minute mile(not I). The software promises good interaction with Google Earth and plots of your course, and exercise intensity so I will be installing that as well. The review of the software will come soon in Part2.This is by far the most comprehensive exercise monitoring watch package that I have seen. Any questions, comments?12/11 Add on. Why oh why no "mark my position" function? As is the only way to work with waypoints is to have them downloaded from the computer? What if you are in a new outdoor spot and simply want to get back after a jog? Can be a firmware upgrade. Also the inverse glow for the numerals as a nightlight function is very hard to see unless its totally dark.

I purchased this watch about 3 months ago as I was determined to ramp up my exercise program and I thought this would be a good way to track both my heart rate and distance would be invaluable. The chest strap is somewhat comfortable but not as easy to connect as my Polar unit. There is nothing in the docs to indicate they are compatible, so I have not tried matching them.I never got that running program going and the few times I used it were on short cycling rides and some hikes in the National Parks. It has several features that I discarded, primarily because I have no interest. The waypoint feature allows you to plan a route on your computer, download it to the watch and it prompts directions. I played with it and the mapping software is NOT intuitive. The compass was also a 'why?' so have not bothered. The good: I bought it to map my distances run etc. It works well, the watch face is legible so I have no complaints there. It is fun to upload data results from the watch and view them in Google maps - I did this with some recent hikes. The bad: Battery life, which it turns out is my fault, because I did not switch off the GPS after each use. My watch also has charging issues. There seems to be a 'magic' way to connect it because I can only occasionally charge it. The accompanying software is not user friendly, but I have had no failures or blatant problems while using it.The ?: In frustration I reported the charging problem to Ultega. After some mails detailing the issues; they have offered to overnight me a replacement watch. I am definitely impressed with the way they support their products.
