Much better than the Global Trainer, but would like to see some changes.

Let me start off by saying that I have had quite a few different GPS watches over the last year for running. I am pretty picky and will either sell or send back an item that I don't like for one reason or another. So, I'm going to do some comparing between this and others I have used (Garmin 405/910/and Fenix, Timex Global Trainer, and the Motorola Motoactv). I'm not even going to talk about the 405, because I didn't like anything about it. I'll intersperse between the rest though.Overall, I like this watch. Here's a breakdown of different areas.Screen: It has a much better screen than the Global Trainer and the Fenix. The 910 is pretty good, but this screen is still better.Size: Probably the 2nd best overall as a daily wear watch of those above. The best would be the Fenix. Really, though, the 910 and Motoactv are mainly specialty watches that you would only want to wear when needed. The Global Trainer is huge compared to this.GPS signal acquisition: Really good. Probably among the best. I would say this one is the best, than the Motoactv, 910, Fenix, then Global Trainer.GPS accuracy: For me, the Motoactv seemed to be the most accurate each time I wore it. However, since I've only run with this twice, it is too early to really give a good guess as to its accuracy. Of the two runs, it has been pretty much spot on with the others.Now, I'll get a little more specific with this watch. It is waterproof to 50 Meters (it says water resistant on the watch, but the website says water proof). This is a great thing. The Motoactv is not waterproof, and hardly water resistant. However, it has stood up to many runs in the rain (Never removed the port cover for headphones). I like that the display can switch between black background and white background. It has the ability to set up interval training sessions. It also has vibration alerts so you know when you reach a target even if you can't hear the watch (or when you are using an alarm). I'll get into the vibration alerts a bit more in a minute. It connects to my Garmin footpod quickly and is easily configurable. I did have problems with my first run trying to upload to training peaks. It would not upload via the device agent. However, I was able to go to the website and upload it through the calendar upload function. The battery life seems to be really good. Not sure exactly how long, but it'll last plenty long as an everyday watch.Finally, a few things to note that I would like to see.1) The ability to turn off sound when vibration alerts are on. This is for both workout alerts and also the alarm.2) Not a big deal for me, but some people may want a virtual race function (I never used it on Garmins, but one person I showed the watch to mentioned this).3) A trackback ability. I would like to be able to have one waypoint marked and then have an arrow point me there when I need it.4) One more alarm. I don't mind this, but having more alarms set would be nice.I think Timex has come a long way in terms of GPS watches, and this would be a really good option in my opinion over some other GPS's. Each has their own positives and negatives, and I would say this is probably my second favorite GPS watch.

Previous to this watch I had the Timex Ironman Bodylink GPS. I hung onto it for almost 5 years because it was bulletproof. The disadvantage was that I had to wear the GPS on my arm. I had been looking for some time for a smaller, more integrated watch, and because of my previous positive experience was looking for a Timex. When this came out I was excited because it was a smaller watch that offered a lot. However, it didn't start out good. (I ordered this from another retailer because I was able to find it cheaper). The first one I received was dead-on-arrival so I sent it back. The second one started out fine but then gave me a charger error. At this point I debated about trying again, but I liked the options of the watch and what it had to offer so I thought I'd try one more time. The third one showed up and worked the way it should have. I'm glad I tried one more time because I am very happy with it (I got the model with the heart monitor). I've had this watch for a little over a month now. Here are my pros and cons:Pros:- Overall appearance is nice (I went w/ the silver/green). It's 'smaller' for a GPS running watch which is a plus. Looks like a normal watch - smaller than most running watches out there.- The display is very clear and you have the option of reversing the colors (white on black, black on white).- GPS seems to be accurate and when I go into a tunnel it gives me a warning within a second or two which shows me it pings pretty consistently.- Once connected the GPS signal seems pretty strong.- Stores up to 15 workouts- Can upload to Training Peaks which has some nice stats/graphs and maps run on Google Maps. You can pay for a premium membership to get more graphs, but the free membership has mostly everything you need.- Very bright indiglo and can lock the indiglo on for night running.- USB charge seems to hold for a while.- Has vibration alerts.- Ask you to enter your stats and can provide calories burned which is nice.- Opted for the heart monitor too which works well and is accurate.Cons:- Seems to be some buggy watches out there - took me till the 3rd one to get a good one.- On my previous watch it seemed that I could walk or even jog slowly and the GPS would connect. So far, I've had to stay pretty steady in an open area to get the GPS to connect.- Would have preferred a prominent button on front which is easier to hit when running.- Face of watch is almost flush with outer border. Hasn't been an issue so far, but worried about scratches/damage to the face.Overall, I'm a fan so far. If you get the watch and have charging issues, try upgrading the firmware.

Great watch

Loving this watch! So easy to use and so helpful to keep me motivated and running. It's awesome for my running workouts. I'm pretty tech illiterate and I can get my chrono and mileage right up and the GPS signal is found right away. Also, this model vibrates at every mile...what?? That is huge!!! I love it!! I used to be all anxious about when I was finally getting to my miles and the vibration on this watch is key. Also, I had an older version of this watch...which I also liked, except for the fact that it was too bulky. This version js way slicker and slimmer...great improvement Timex!! Overall, I do not think you will be disappointed if you invest in this watch.
